The Boards of Appeal of the European Union Intellectual property Office (EUIPO), in cooperation with the EUIPO’s Academy, hosted the fourth edition of the international Intellectual Property (IP) Mediation Conference. The conference was held on 19 and 20 October 2023 at the EUIPO’s headquarters in Alicante, Spain, but it was also possible to attend online.

The IP Mediation Conference brings together representatives from a broad variety of stakeholders committed to mediation and other alternative dispute resolution (ADR) mechanisms, from all over the world. In particular, we welcomed speakers and delegates from IP offices, EU institutions and policy makers, lawyers, in-house counsels and other IP practitioners, judges, leading mediation institutions, sectors of international industry, owners of small businesses, international IP users, and ADR training providers, as well as academia.

The objective is to provide training and a platform for knowledge sharing for the staff of national IP offices and representatives of user associations on specific IP issue. The conference programme has been designed to encourage discussion, interaction and networking. On this occasion, it focuses on the pragmatic and practical aspects of mediation as an incentive for businesses and their legal counsels. A wide range of experts and practitioners engaged the audience by going through four key aspects of mediation and other ADR mechanisms in the IP field.
