The webinar will address EUIPO’s practice in relation to the protection of Geographical Indications (GIs), namely the following:

  • Classification: avoiding incorrect references to GIs in the list of goods and services
  • Absolute grounds: importance of checking, before filing a new trade mark, if it can be in conflict with a GI.
  • Inter partes & relative grounds: impact of GI-related limitations and proof of entitlement in the actions based on Article 8(6) EUTMR

After this webinar, participants will be able to:

  • file and amend the list of goods and services in compliance with EUIPO guidelines
  • know how to search for GIs in the GIs database GIView
  • increase the chances of successfully substantiating an action based on Article 8(6) EUTMR
