New courses in cooperation with EU IP offices
The EUIPO, under the European Cooperation Project ‘ECP3 Academy eLearning (ALP)’, has produced a set of tutorials reflecting national IP practices, in relation to trade mark opposition, trade mark cancellation and design cancellation.
The tutorials can be accessed on the EUIPO Academy Learning Portal:
- Trade Mark Opposition – 21 tutorials from 20 IP offices (with Benelux making versions in French and in Dutch)
- Trade Mark Cancellation – 14 tutorials from 13 IP offices (with Benelux making versions in French and in Dutch)
- Design Cancellation – 9 tutorials from 9 IP offices
This set of tutorials consists of a total of 44 tutorials, produced in close cooperation with 20 intellectual property offices of the EU, including the offices of Austria, Bulgaria, Benelux, Czech Republic, Cyprus, Spain, France, Greece, Croatia, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Lithuania, Latvia, Malta, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Sweden and Slovakia.
All tutorials follow a similar structure. They use video animations to present a story describing a case or situation that could easily happen to an entrepreneur. The idea behind this is to connect real life situations with explanations of the possible actions that can be taken in such situations in each of the participating EU countries.
In the Trade Mark Opposition tutorial, the owner of a cake shop discovers that another company has registered a similar trade mark.
In the Trade Mark Cancellation tutorial, on the contrary, the entrepreneur had not performed a trade mark search before naming his company. Now he discovers that he is using a similar brand as another company, which has it registered as a trade mark, but has not used it for several years.
In the Design Cancellation tutorial, a couple that produces a model of chair is contacted by another company to stop producing the chair, claiming that they are infringing their registered rights.
In the second part of the tutorial, an expert from the relevant intellectual property office explains the necessary steps to resolve the issue presented in the video.
This is the third and final set of tutorials developed under the ECP3 Academy eLearning project, following the publication of various e-learning courses on national practice.
The tutorials are available on the EUIPO Academy Learning Portal as well as on the websites of the participating offices.
