The lockdown measures to contain COVID-19 have boosted demand even further, with leading streaming services even agreeing to reduce the video quality of streams at the request of the EU Commission to free up bandwidth for more important services. Even though the first rush of new customers to the streaming platforms has already slowed down somewhat, the increased demand in the area of video streaming has also led to an increased number of consumers who have fallen for fraudulent offers. Many consumers do not notice if they have signed up for a dubious streaming service. The rude awakening often comes a few days later when letters arrive from lawyers or debt collection agencies demanding several hundred euros for allegedly completed annual memberships. The mess ...Plus On the initiative of the Spanish Patent and Trade mark Office, the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Tourism ran an awareness campaign aimed to highlight the negative impacts of counterfeiting. The message of the campaign was “By saying no to counterfeiting, we all win” and aimed to raise consumer awareness about counterfeiting and its social and economic consequences. The main slogan for the campaign, in Spanish, was “Los peores descuentos del mundo, piérdetelos”. The campaign was comprehensively disseminated in different channels, including TV, Internet, social media and conventional media. The video project focuses on the sports industry - counterfeit shoes can injure muscles, joints and ligaments. According to the EUIPO’s data, counterfeiting in the sports sector causes legal manufacturers in the EU countries an annual loss of EUR 500 million, which equals to 6.5% of total trade in these goods. Counterfeit sports equipment costs the Latvian market a loss of 2 million per year, and counterfeit products represent 15.9% of total consumption in this sector....Moins
