The Spanish General Consumers Association, the ASGECO Confederation, has launched a national campaign to warn about the risks of buying fake goods using a touring bus open to the public that will stop in eight key Spanish cities during October: Cáceres, Cordoba, Cádiz, Málaga, Alicante, Salou, Pamplona and Madrid. Among those cities, Málaga and Alicante are part of the Authenticity initiative.

‘Consume original, be authentic’ is the third edition of the campaign. This time around, ASGECO will highlight the risks linked with fake car spares and fake electronic devices. These products, if not used with the appropriate security control measures, can seriously affect road security, health and the buyer’s pocket. In addition, the purchase of such products can have a very serious impact on the large-scale economy and social structure of a country.

The campaign is financed by the Spanish Consumer Agency for Food Security and Nutrition (AECOSAN), which is part of the Ministry of Health, Social Services and Equality, and co-financed by the Spanish Office of Brands and Patents (OEMP), the National Association for the defence of brands (ANDEMA) and Ecoembes.

The fake market causes an annual loss of 11.6 % of sales in the affected sectors in Spain alone, which is a loss of more than EUR 8 800 million and of 98 500 jobs.
