Leading indicators for IPR-intensive industries

On 24 November 2021, a new paper about industries intensively using intellectual property rights (IPRs) was published.

This new paper supplements the analysis of the rates of change of IPR-intensive industries with leading indicators that provide early signs of the future trend. These indicators are also known as diffusion indices and do not provide a quantitative forecasting but rather show when the IPR indicators will change from an acceleration to a deceleration phase (or vice versa) up to 7 months in advance.

Diffusion indices have demonstrated that the impact of the 2009 and 2020 crisis were widespread along most of the IPR-intensive industries and that the current recovery phase is more widespread among the industries in France, Spain and Italy.

Interested in IPRs? Check out the previous paper discussing the economic impact of the COVID-19 crisis on those industries.”
