What users can expect from this service:
- assistance with classification and information about classification tools;
- guidance when selecting the type of mark, introducing a colour claim, and claiming priority or seniority.
What users should not expect from this service:
- legal advice on the scope of a particular term for goods and services or on similarity between terms;
- examination services.
Formal and classification deficiencies are among the main reasons why trade marks may take longer to examine. This happens when there are formal mistakes in the application form, such as errors in the trade mark type or in the classification of goods and services.
Our staff can help users spot and prevent such mistakes.
Classification deficiencies can also be easily avoided by using the Office’s Harmonised Database of goods and services (HDB). When users select a goods or services term from the HDB, they can be sure that it will be accepted when the application is examined by our staff and that the term has already been translated into all other EU languages
