Jorma Hanski elected as Chairperson of EUIPO Management Board
The Management Board of the Office elected Jorma Hanski, the Director of Patents and Trade Marks at the Finnish Patent and Registration Office (PRH), as Chairperson.
At its meeting on 20 November at EUIPO’s headquarters in Alicante, the Management Board of the Office elected Jorma Hanski, the Director of Patents and Trade Marks at the Finnish Patent and Registration Office (PRH), as Chairperson. Mr Hanski begins his mandate on 1 January 2019.
In the interim the role of Acting Chairperson is taken by the Deputy Chairperson, Mr Dermot Doyle, of the Irish Patent Office.
Mr Hanski has been with PRH since 2013 and was appointed Director of Patents and Trade Marks at the PRH in February 2016. His managerial career has included positions in the PRH, Berggren Group and Rautaruukki Corporation.
The Management Board and Budget Committee are composed of representatives of the Member States of the European Union, the European Commission and the European Parliament, with the Benelux Office of Intellectual Property (BOIP), the European Patent Office (EPO), the World Intellectual Property Office (WIPO), the Community Plant Variety Office (CPVO), and user associations acting as observers.
The Staff Committee of EUIPO is also invited to observe.
During the Management Board and Budget Committee joint meeting, which took place from 20-21 November, Members approved the launch of two European Cooperation projects: Convergence Programme 12: “Evidence in Appeal Proceedings”; and the European Network of Authenticities. They were also briefed on the Strategic Planning Roadmap 2020-2025. Members also approved the Draft Work Programme of the Office for 2019.
At the meeting of the Budget Committee of EUIPO on 22 November, Members approved the 2019 Budget of the Office and the acquisition of a plot of land.
