Less is more!

Less is more!

Two changes to design practice result in fewer deficiencies and more applications accepted.

1 March 2021 and the entry into force of the new design guidelines saw two changes of immense benefit.

  • If the product indication does not have a subclass, one will be given:
    • e.g. the product indication is furnishing in Class 6. It is clear from the design that it is a bed. The examiner will assign subclass 06-02 and change the product indication to beds.

  • If the product indication is mismatched, it will be corrected:
    • e.g. the product indication is a bed. It is clear from the design that it is a table. The examiner will change the product indication to tables.

What are the benefits?

  • Fewer deficiencies for situations that are easily resolved.
  • Leading to more applications that can be accepted.

See the Design Guidelines,Sections 6.1.4.3 and 6.1.4.4 for more.
