3rd ID5 Annual Meeting 4 – 5 December 2017
The EUIPO hosted the ID5 Annual Meeting in Alicante on 4 – 5 December 2017.
ID5 is the multilateral cooperation forum, inaugurated in 2015, which allows the five largest design offices, the European Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO), the United States Patent and Trademark office (USPTO), the Japan Patent Office (JPO), the Korean Intellectual Property Office (KIPO) and the Chinese State Intellectual Property Office (SIPO) to seek cooperation synergies for the benefit of users in the field of design registration.
During the meeting, the ID5 Partner offices shared their progress on a number of collaborative projects namely:
- The Catalogue of View and Drawing Requirements
- Product Indications
- Compilation of Industrial Design Statistics
- Study of Design Classification Conventions & Practices
- ID5 Website
- Catalogue of Eligibility for Industrial Design Protection
- Emerging Designs
- Partial Designs
- Grace Period
- Priority Document Exchanges
- Practices of Priority Rights
The View and Drawing Requirements, the Compilation of Industrial Design Statistics and the Study of Design Classification Conventions and Practices projects were officially moved into maintenance mode as all deliverables have been met.
The Partners discussed and officially adopted the new operational guidelines for the functioning of the forum. The meeting saw an open discussion on partners’ recent developments and new initiatives.
A one day session for users from User Associations from the five Partner Offices was held on the second day.
This included discussions with stakeholders on Emerging Designs, namely new types of designs and new types of representations and formats.
The Partners also agreed on the launch of the new provisional ID5 website (www.id-five.org).
KIPO was officially designated as the next ID5 Host and Secretariat with a view to holding Mid-Term and annual meetings in 2018.
